Weird Advice for a Broken Hearted Person

[this was written a while ago after waking up feeling inspired by someone else's heartbreak]

A quiet intensity hides behind fiery eyes.
Eyes that shock in their open stillness.
Sight that lights up spaces when laughing.
Reserved sorrow courses deep within.
Princes are rebuffed when trying to move you.
You decide on how you are moved.

Past unpleasantness poisons your freedom.
The dirt from before should be used as a foundation for growth.
Manure helps the flower grow.
The lotus is untouched by the dirt of it's surrounds.

Space and time can heal much harm.
Beyond these things is beyond harm.
Slight smiles of bent lips when you can walk to the harmer of you and admit:
They are not a person.
They are not a memory.
They are a delusion.
You can no longer see them.
You see straight through them.

You see their pain, sorrow, anger and arrogance.
And you feel sorry for them.
Swimming in an ocean of confusion and delusion.

You see them for what they are and you say:

You are not useful.
Not here.
Not now.
Go bother another.
Leave my sight lest I end up destroying you wherever you stand.
Wherever you run.
Wherever you hide.

You can run.
You can hide.
Unless you change you will be confusion and delusion.
Leopards cannot change it's spots.
You can't polish a turd.
You will never change without opportunity.
I can change as I wish, when I wish.
Nothing as tiny as you can stop me.
I can go further without you.
Without carrying your ideas of  good or ill.

The tempter ends up poisoning all.
In seeing this refuse to take poison.
Go forward until you learn to grow from the sullen sod of your past.
Grow.
Don't let the insects that walk over you change that.
See them for what they are:

Insects.

How to Keep Moving Every Day

To keep moving every day keep it simple.

I try to knock as many off this list as possible, and some things I do are more than just one item on this list.

Do at least one thing every day that:

Is new.

Is comfortable.

Is challenging.

You write down.

You keep to yourself.

Is quiet.

Is loud.

Is exciting.

Is interesting.

Is useful.

Is pleasant.

Is just for you.

Is just for someone else.

Is suggested by someone else.

Inspires you.

Makes you think.

You have been thinking about for a while.

Is spur of the moment.

You want to share.

So go on - do it!

Thoughts that can build a world or destroy it with as much ease

[Update: See note at end of post for more details.]

Attention, all! See the marvels of God! He plants flowers and trees all over the earth, bans war from pole to pole, breaks all the weapons across his knee.“Step out of the traffic! Take a long, loving look at me, your High God, above politics, above everything.”
- Psalms 46:8-10, the Message translation

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
- Psalms 46:10, King James Version.

This bible verse gives me pause - and I know I will more likely than not take it out of context, sometimes words out of context tell you more than books with context because of the real secret to the world, we give these things context - "with our thoughts we make the world" it is claimed the Buddha said.

We may find a moving image somewhere be it from another culture or another place and time and have that speak to us as people, shape us in ourselves to only find the original text meaningless, does that make our life before a fiction and this is reality?
This is a complicated question well out of the scope of my intention right now - but let me say that I think that the stories we tell ourselves about ourselves shape our lives, they inform the way we see the world and the way we think - this changes the way we relate to other people, events, ideas and situations.

As a species I think we have an idea of what the "best" we can be as people that can exist - an idea of God, Jesus, Buddha, Allah, Krishna, et al. The idea of the optimal person, always able to think clearly yet able to be embodied as pure compassion - or something along those lines. We know we can backslide emotionally, psychologically, spiritually or physically on an individual scale so we can have a vague sense of one who doesn't - one who is "eternally lucky", every back step we made was a step forward to them - and they progressed just as we did when we could. I imagine all these ideas and dreams being projected as a form - like an image of a person being displayed by a projector. I tend to call this idea Amitofo/Amitabha - as that is the name of the Buddha of infinite light and infinite life, fitting I think; infinite light because it is a mass projection of each individual's light and infinite life because ideas of people and projected images cannot die.

[Quick aside: is there a being at the center of this projection being projected upon? I am not sure, if there was I believe they would not care too much, they just happen to be neverendingly lucky and the furthest progressed being they would presumably just deal with it as it was just another thing to deal with like most people have to "deal with" following the social contract. Whatever is there reflects most of what it receives, perhaps as a skillful mirror.]

The Psalms were originally songs to be sung, so their lyrical quality is intentional - and even after translation their ability to put a lot of thought in a small space makes them poetical.

So back to the bible - where would this idea be? I think calling it God would be a pretty safe statement, Jesus would then be an earthly manifestation of such a being - God made flesh to feel our pain and suffering first hand. Then what about Psalm 46:10? It was sung by those suffering, those in pain - it was sung by us, by all humanity. "Be still, and know that I am God" is you as a person thinking of something beyond you that transmits it's immense and intense light onto you - cleans you, purifies you and speaks through you to remind you we are all one. I am god as much as you are or anyone else - any other living being. We can all make these statements - we can all "other" ourselves to give us the self-acceptance we need and have been missing from time to time.

Is it sad we need to project our love in order for it to come back? To love in order to be loved. It doesn't really matter - if you need that form of a feeling you will find it, and you should use it if it's useful.

I mean with our thoughts we make the world ... right?

[Note: On further reflection, I am not sure this post is pleasant, useful or interesting - I was considering removing it but that in itself would help me feed my ego. How will anyone be able to see the real me, or how will I even be able to present that side of me to the world (or more importantly myself) if people are only used to seeing a cleaned up, stage managed and heavily curated version of me. After seeing that for so long seeing the real me may be a shock - and that is why I am here - to try to share that part of me.]

Online Buddhist Ordination

Do you want to be a monk, but don't know how?

In the beggining - if you were friends, colleages or aquantences of the Buddha, he would say "Come, monk" (ehi bhikkhu) - and you were a monk. That's when the Sangha was at it's strongest and everyone in it was either an arahat or becoming one.

The first Monks were to ordain others by getting them to repeat the refuge formula three times "I go refuge to the Buddha. I go for refuge to the Dharma. I go for refuge to the Sangha."

Then later there were ceremonies - taking refuge in the presence of usually ten other monks that have been monks for longer than ten years.

If you want the easy way out ordain at the following places:
http://www.buddhismonline.us/html/free_ordination.html [dead link]
or feel free to visit the Universal Life Church or other online churches offering free ordination

The hard way:
http://ordinationthai.org/en/?page_id=26 [dead link]

information about Zen ordination online:
http://www.shambhalasun.com/sunspace/?p=18165

But all of this comes to your reason why you want to be ordained.
Want to preform a marriage - then it is usually a church/celebrants course.

Want to BLESS things?
This anyone can do - but don't be fooled it takes some work.

or to quote:
"When one who recites ten malas a day goes swimming, whether in a river, an ocean or some other body of water, the water that touches that person’s body gets blessed.

It is said that up to seven generations of that person’s descendents won’t get reborn in the lower realms. The reason for this is that due to the power of mantra, the body is blessed by the person reciting the mantra and visualizing their body in form of the holy body of Chenrezig. Therefore, the body becomes so powerful, so blessed that this affects the consciousness up to seven generations and has the effect that if one dies with a non-virtuous thought, one is not reborn in a lower realm.
Thus, when a person who has recited ten malas of om mani padme hum a day goes into a river or an ocean, the water that touches the person’s body gets blessed, and this blessed water then purifies all the billions and billions of sentient beings in the water. So it’s unbelievably beneficial; this person saves the animals in that water from the most unbelievable suffering of the lower realms.
When such a person walks down a road and the wind touches his or her body and then goes on to touch insects, their negative karma gets purified and causes them to have a good rebirth. Similarly, when such a person does massage or otherwise touches others’ bodies, those people’s negative karma also gets purified."
So "Come monk"
